Metallica Helps City Harvest London Tackle Food Waste

City Harvest London was delighted to receive a cheque for £24,000 from Metallica at their Twickenham concert, Thursday 20 June 2019.

Metallica’s charitable foundation, All Within My Hands, photographed band members Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, Robert Trujillo and City Harvest London employees holding a giant check for £24,000.

“Each ticket sold for #MetInLondon has helped @Metallica raise this money in support of both @CityHarvest_LDN and @magic_breakfast as each organization works to feed the hungry in their communities. #MetallicaGivesBack #AWMH,” the All Within My Hands foundation’s tweet stated.

Laura Winningham, City Harvest founder and CEO said,

“Thank you so much, All Within My Hands Foundation. Your generous donation will help us feed thousands of people. Metallica are amazing supporters of help tackling food poverty; this money will make a massive impact on our efforts to help feed hungry and homeless people.”

City Harvest London

City Harvest, London’s first food surplus redistribution charity, established in 2014.

Rescuing surplus food and delivering to those who need it the most, chilled City Harvest vans form rapid response units connecting waste and want, 7 days a week throughout the capital.

In less than 5 years, City Harvest London has delivered food for 5 million meals.

An estimated 27% of London’s population live in poverty and face hunger. Thousands of tonnes of food are wasted daily, and City Harvest London helps address this problem.

Free of charge, City Harvest vans collect and deliver 80,000 meals a week from supermarkets, wholesale markets, manufacturers and the hospitality industry. Our trademark fleet of temperature-controlled vans deliver to over 260 London community programmes, including: homeless shelters, mental health community projects, family centres, childrens’ programmes, and domestic abuse refuges.
