James Bowen on Transforming a Life and Giving Back

The best-selling author of A Street Cat Named Bob, James Bowen, joined the City Harvest team on their food rescue rounds today, truly inspiring those we met along the way.

Formerly homeless, James Bowen’s love for his cat inspired him to overcome drug addiction and turn his life around. James has since written several children’s and adults’ books and has been the subject of an award-winning recently released film.

James was interested to help City Harvest, which redistributes food to several of the organisations he was familiar with when his life was in crisis. He understands how important it is to raise awareness for the work that we do, getting nutritious food to those who are fragile health-wise. James brought cheer and a glimmer of hope to residents at hostels where we dropped food (like St. Mungo's Six Lane) and stopped to share book writing tips with some of the shoppers that instantly recognised and eagerly engaged with him when we were picking up food from our generous donors.

We’re thrilled to have James as a City Harvest advocate and can’t wait to have him out on one of our vans again!
